Founder's Story

The Genesis of Green Hippo Provisioning

The Genesis of Green Hippo Provisioning

In second grade, counselors, teachers, and doctors pushed me into being put on SSRI’s, most notoriously known as ADHD medication.

At 12 years old, I tried opiates for the first time, not knowing what cannabis was until 14.

I was simply looking for an escape from the mental reality I was living.

At age 16, I got a DUI due to driving under the influence of XANAX.

My drug of choice was morphine, followed by OxyContin and Percocet.

It is currently 2024, and it has been about 8 years or so since I got sober.

Since second grade, I never went without mind-altering drugs flowing through me until I achieved sobriety.

To this day, the only reason I made it through withdrawals and am alive is because of the strength God gave me and the cannabis I used for pain relief during withdrawals. It was simply a matter of time until I would’ve overdosed if God hadn’t given me the strength to walk away.

When I got sober, as time went on, I walked into the worst health issues of my life. The symptoms consisted of intense nausea, throwing up, bone numbness/tingling that would put me to my knees, it was so debilitating that it would eventually lead to my vision going dark as if I was blacking out. On one occasion, in front of the doctors, I passed out, and my eyes rolled back in my head, which led them to test me for seizures and a stroke before an upper GI scope, which all said I was fine.

Countless tests were done locally and I was put on medication for acid reflux, GI issues, and other things, which ultimately led to the worst symptoms I had since getting sober. Finally, the insurance covered a visit to the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, where doctors did 3 days of testing. They told me all of the countless tests they did over the 3 days showed my health to be fine and there were no underlying factors that could contribute to my condition. To which they asked me, “Have you ever considered you may be allergic to cannabis?” I immediately responded, “Name one allergy in the entire world that someone can take more of and feel better. Little do you know I stopped taking your medications 6 months ago, and this is the best health I’ve been in, just using cannabis.” To which they answered, “If what you’re saying is true, you will need to hire third-party testing because our parameters don’t allow us to get to the root cause of your condition.”

Knowing the atrocities happening through our country with food, among other things, seeing medications forced upon friends and society firsthand, this instantly created a bad taste in my mouth.

So I came home and approached my family in hopes of creating a family-funded caregiver facility to give back on a more local level in Michigan as a whole through the medicine that was healing me, in hopes that someday I could shed light on broader issues in the food industry, Big Agriculture (fertilizer & pesticides), centralized hospitals, and Big Pharma. Hoping that someday I would be able to create a rehabilitation center onsite that would use herbal medicine to push willing people to sobriety.

Then medical licensing was released, and I realized the spectrum of the small stand I was moving towards taking locally. I knew if I could stand up against corporate cannabis and help other small guys stand too, that would be our route moving forward because although there are broader issues I mentioned above, they are as big as the air we breathe compared to the corporate cannabis industry poisoning people which is as large as a penny comparatively.

Not realizing the spectrum of red tape that would gather due to legal hoops, etc. At the time, the end of 2019 was approaching quickly, and we only needed doors, racking, dehumidifiers, and cameras to complete our building for cultivation on the legal market.

At this time, foreseeing the market crash coming due to big money getting into the industry for quick riches, we stopped construction at the cultivation and started groundwork for our retail on December 25th, 2019, fully invested in creating a Family Funded & Operated safe haven for us and others moving forward.

Fast forward to August 1st, 2023; we received full licensure for the retail and then officially opened on November 1st, 2023.

Through all of this, we have orchestrated the path to a fair market from seed to sale for past caregivers and legacy market operators, including a future “board of caregivers” that will oversee the fair market trade from seed to sale within Green Hippo Provisioning. We had to go this retail route ourselves to avoid being pushed out of cultivation due to the market crash among other things happening in the industry.

First and foremost, we feel there are many others that deserve recognition for their medicine crafting skills. Now, we hope to forward our safe haven onto others as we focus on their true craft medicine while empowering the consumers!

Someday we will return to growing ourselves when the real farmers finally get the recognition they deserve.

We welcome you to join us on our journey of healing others through many different circumstances.

Together, we can build a healthier, more informed community rooted in shared values and the pursuit of a brighter, safer future.
